New Seuss Releases – Cat Behind the Hat & Cuddle Fish

Exclusive New Release Announcements
As of today, the following two extraordinary Tour Editions are available to collectors exclusively through dealers hosting the Secrets of the Deep Art Exhibition.

The Cat Behind the Hat
Ted Geisel’s most iconic self-portrait ran in the July 6, 1957 issue of The Saturday EveningPost. Appearing just four months after the launch of The Cat in the Hat, this classic portrait depicts Dr. Seuss as his mischievous alter ego, complete with red and white stovepipe hat, cat ears, and the Cat’s now famous red bow tie. Ted and his hatted Cat shared an affinity for bow ties, each wearing them throughout their long lives.

Cuddle Fish
Collection curator Bill Dreyer writes in the preface to the Secrets of the Deep book: “While researching Ted’s paintings and sculpture at his La Jolla home, I became aware that Ted and Audrey kept more than forty artworks behind a concealed false door that were publicly unknown and unpublished, all waiting for Audrey to reveal them to Ted’s fans.”

Cuddle Fish is one of these artworks, kept close at hand by Ted throughout his lifetime, which resides still with Audrey in the Geisel home. In the vein of the Horton Line Drawing, this work exudes classic Seussian charm and confirms the Good Doctor’s breezy artistic talent.

Georgeana Ireland Selected as ArtExpo’s “Artwork of the Day”

“Golden Light” has been selected as the Artexpo New York Artwork of the Day, and has simultaneously gone out to over 27,000 Artexpo fans on Facebook and Twitter. Included in the post the video of Georgeana painting “Afterglow”.

You can find it at http://artexponewyork.com/2011/02/artwork-of-the-day-golden-light-georgeana-ireland/ as well as on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/artexponewyork.
Romantic movement, the Abstract Expressionism movement and the Hudson River School.

Georgeana will be painting an abstract landscape accompanied by music at Artexpo New York 2011on Saturday, March 26 at 11:00AM.

Growing up in a town in rural Oregon, Georgeana’s artistic talent was discovered at an early age and encouraged by her grandmother, also an artist. By the time Georgeana was 16 years old she was painting more than three hours a day and selling her work. Her national debut was in Carmel, California, at the age of 21. Georgeana continued exhibiting in galleries and museums across the U.S. and has received numerous awards for her paintings. Her murals can be found in the historic Multnomah Hotel and the Willamette building in Portland, OR; the Sunriver Lodge and Resort in Sunriver, OR; and numerous private collections in Oregon, Washington, and California.

An autodidact, Georgeana honed her artistic skills with classes under master artists, extensive research and travels to art museums in Russia, Italy, France, Prague, Vienna and London. “Seeing the original brushstrokes of the masters up close has had a profound influence on my new work,” she says.

Since moving to California in 2002, Georgeana has maintained an active exhibition schedule with galleries, museums and private commissions.

We look forward to welcoming Georgeana to Artexpo New York 2011 and to seeing her exciting painting demo!

Attention Dr. Seuss Dealers and Collectors

    Horton Maquette

    Horton Maquette

Horton Hears a Who! 2010 Sculpture debut from Tribute Collection II

Each year we receive hundreds of requests from Dealers and Collectors for favorite artworks to be released from the Art of Dr. Seuss Collection. Long before “Horton Hears a Who!” rocked the box office as one of 2008’s top ten grossing films, Seuss’s loyal elephant – his champion of equality and faithfulness – topped the wish list.

SPECIAL EDITION ANNOUNCEMENT: CHROMIUM STAINLESS STEEL

For the first time in history, a Dr. Seuss Tribute Sculpture will also be available in a stainless steel edition, limited to just 35 regular editions and 15 collaborator proofs on a first come, first served basis.

In anticipation of this extraordinary “Horton Hears a Who!” sculpture offering, we would like to take a moment to provide Dealers and Collectors with key details surrounding this highly anticipated release.

Both the Bronze and Stainless Editions are of the same Horton image, including profile and dimensions: 15 ½ inches high by 14 ½ inches wide by 8 ½ inches deep.

The Bronze Edition will be created in the tradition of preceding Tribute Collection Sculptures: 195 Arabic edition, 99 patron editions and 55 collaborator proofs.

Patron edition clients wishing to receive their existing patron number can do so by acquiring the Bronze Sculpture Edition. The Stainless Edition does not have a patron edition.

Photographs and further details on the June launch are forthcoming this May.

Stay tuned for details surrounding a life-sized Stainless Steel Horton Sculpture!
